This N That
Oct. 21st, 2008 07:45 pmFirst, thank you one and all for your votes in Jay Lake's Tuckerization contest. Unfortunately, I did not. win. Somebody overbid me in the bribe department. Last time I checked, I was in 4th place, so almost! maybe next time. But thanks again for the votes!
I'm trying to write a new story. I *really* like the characters a lot. And I *really* like the main character's internal motivation and problem. The big problem with the story, though, is that I haven't a Big Event for it. How can I have a story without a Big Event? This is always my problem. Characters with a problem, check. Characters interacting with each other, check. Plot, uhhhh no. I started writing it anyway, hoping something would come along. And it did, but then I start second-guessing myself. No, that plot has a hole it in. No, that plot is one big fat cliche. No, that plot is bo-o-oring. No, that plot isn't a plot at all. No, that plot calls for a too big suspension of belief. And on and on until I'm confused.
So how do y'all come up with plot? Is that what pops up in your head first? And then you people the plot? What is this so damn difficult for me? I keep wondering if I'm not just over-thinking the whole thing. I've done 3 Flash Challenges now at Liberty Hall and have been able to come up with stories because I'm not listening to myself, cause of the time limit. In the current story, I've decided to go ahead and not listen to myself either, and just write the story and if the plot is holey or boring or whatever, then I can change it later. But to just write, damnit. Dangednabbit!
On a side note, I is tired! Grandbaby was ornery this afternoon. Terrible 2 type of stuff, and he's not even 2 yet. *screams*
