Almost caught up
Mar. 13th, 2008 11:12 amI've answered all the crits on my story. Now to get time to tackle my "regular" inbox. That shouldn't take long once I find some minutes--just a bunch of jokes that will mostly get deleted. But I do have some emails from friends who probably are thinking I've dropped off the face of the earth. We'll be off to the coast tomorrow, it looks like. I'm feeling torn in wanting to stay home and clean house and work in the yard. My bulbs are blooming and it's been so warm they're looking ragged (the tulips that is). One set of daffodils has come and are fading, but others are just now blooming. I ordered some new ones this year, lots of double flowers (well, the throats are multiple petals anyway), and I'm really happy with them. My freesias are just starting to bloom, as are the Spanish hyacinths, and the candytuft. Spring flowers are the best. I'm dying to go get some annuals though. But it looks like it might rain this weekend anyway, and if we don't get to the coast this weekend, it'll be another 2-3 weeks. So hell with my dirty house. It'll get cleaned next week anyway for Easter, and I won't be home to see it-- So.
So yesterday I'm driving home from my meeting, tired and yet enjoying the warm air and the spring-like weather. The redbuds are blooming, as are the ornamental pears--they look like they have snowballs decorating their branches! And I'm flying down the road, just coming into town, and glance over on a newer street, and there's two motorcycle cops sitting there. I know I'm had. I look down and I'm going 70. Shit, shit and double shit. I hit the brakes and try to slow, but it's too late already. Sure enough, one of the little young whippersnapper cops pulls out and pulls me over. This is my first speeding ticket since I was 16 or 18 maybe. (No, I am NOT going to count how many years that's been. Ok, yes I have already, but I'm not admitting it to you) F--ing cop. Little shit. I was pissed. It's going to cost me big time, too. I hear traffic violations are really expensive now, and I was going over 70 in a 55, so they may even get me for excessive speed. I think I can take traffic school, but that's going to be way expensive too.
And hey! my printer was messed up yesterday. Printed one email from the laptop to the shared network printer without a problem, then the second, a PDF file, wouldn't print. And hung up the printer. Had to restart the desktop and printer several times before I got it cleared and the printer working. Then today I couldn't print from the laptop. After much messing and fumbling around, (the troubleshooting wizard on XP sucks, but that's no big surprise, eh?) I found the right click/sharing thingy and somehow the desktop had turned off the sharing property of the printer on its side. One little checkmark, and I'm back in business and so proud.
Almost takes away some of the sting from the traffic ticket. But let me repeat: F---ing cop.
