Sleeping baby = grandma plays!
Jul. 3rd, 2007 10:59 amThe baby is asleep. Yesterday at this time he slept for 2 1/2 hours. Dare I hope for the same today? I'm getting him at 7:15 a.m. now, which means my hour or so in the morning to do my online stuff is pretty much gone... or if I get up early and get my hair washed and done, it gives me about a half hour. But I slept in this morning so instead of using his nap time for writing, here I am doing emails and such. So this will be short.
After a reminder from another LJ friend that Baen's had re-opened, I put "Willful Steel" up there. So far I had two really nice comments with a few suggestions for not over-doing it, which is a horrible bad trait of mine. I'm always grateful for those things to be pointed out to me. It's not that I don't trust the reader to not figure out what's going on, it's that I don't trust my story-telling skills enough to know whether I've laid enough clues down. So the end result is that I have some good feedback to use and expect to be able to tighten the story up even further. It started out at over 4k and is now done to 3400 words, looks like it can go down to about 3k with the edits.
The other story I'm working on is a cave society. For some reason, I'm drawn to having caves as the locales for my stories. They keep popping up. This story started out as a picture of the opening scene. I think it's interesting the different ways stories can begin in our heads. Sometimes with a specific scene, sometimes a character, sometimes a plot point. Usually mine begin with a character doing something... then trying to figure out what comes after that and why anyone would want to read about it is what I'm still trying to figure out.
Well. For being the quiet shy type I can't seem to shut up when I'm typing/writing. So. I will go and work on my story now since I seem to be in a writing-garrulous mood.
