Lagging into the New Year

musingaloud2010 saw a decrease in new short stories. I started out the year with the intent of getting my backlog of stories revised and subbed, hoping for a pro sale. That didn't happen. I dealt with a major disturbance in my motivation by backsliding into game playing. Looking backward now, I think it was all necessary as I tried to wrap my brain around the death of one of my best friends, and added to that, the trauma of the death of my husband's best friend. But in looking over my writing stats this year, I see I had 5 acceptances, which is up from the previous year, so I'll call it all good in that respect. More on that in a later post.
We're at the coast, with yet more rain all last night and really strong winds today, making it more than a little nippy. Tomorrow we get to spend all day in the car, driving to yet another funeral. It'll be a 4.5-5 hr drive from here -- one way. And yes, we're doing it all in one day, rather than lose more time here on our vacation.
In the "I have no luck unless it's bad luck" vein, I broke a tooth on my first day here. A full 1/4 of my molar. Luckily, it really doesn't hurt, so instead of going to a dentist here, I'm going to wait until I get home on Monday. I hope they can put a crown on it, but am dreading the whole procedure. I imagine I'll have to have a root canal too. My medical bills this year -- sheesh! Except this will count for next year.
So that's it for me for now. I'm trying to get two stories ready for contest entries. It gives me only the rest of today and then Friday, since tomorrow is a lost day of travel. And no, I can't take my laptop because a) the battery won't last that long, and b) we're meeting friends halfway. Although maybe I will take it for the first couple hours, until the battery dies, that is. I don't know why I wait until the last minute like this. Well, yes I do. It's procrastination, pure and simple.
