We went to the movies last night with friends.  We decided to see "There Will Be Blood," even though I had some idea that it was a very dark and disturbing movie; the men-types wanted to see it as being Academy-Award-worthy.  I should know better.  Most movies that the critics and the Academy love and rave about, I hate.  The main thing I hated about this movie was the background music.  It sounded worse than nails on a chalkboard to me, just grating without any melody.  I don't like dark movies that show the ugliness and reality of life.  Or books and stories.  Although I tend to write stories like that.  How's that for a conundrum?

Anyway, I guess I can agree that Daniel Day Lewis gave an Oscar-worthy performance.  But really I thought the movie could have used a lot more editing.  It druuuuugggggg for me.  The long pauses between conversation and the slow manner in which Lewis's character spoke, well really Eli did the same I guess, made me want to yell at them, "Just spit it out, dammit!"  I suppose it was a great moral tale in the effects of greed and an over-active competitive spirit on a person, but it just left me feeling .... ugh.
