The winds, they did blow!
Dec. 3rd, 2011 12:22 pmCalif. has been having severe Santa Ana winds, which for those of you not familiar with, are strong, warm winds that mostly blow during the winter months. Looks like LA got the worst of it, as usual. We're at the coast, and they were quite strong here (read: roof-shakingly loud), but haven't seen a lot of damage (i.e.: downed trees). Curious to see how badly it blew at home. Fresno got hit pretty hard, whereas Hanford (about 20 minutes away from my house and 30-40 from Fresno) had hardly any at all. I guess no tree blew down on our house, or someone would have called us, I'm sure.
For those of you who don't read Elizabeth Bear's (
matociquala) LJ, the thing I love about it is her writing process posts. In today's entry, she has re-written a sentence 6 times, finally getting the wordiness out to her satisfaction. I find it fascinating because it shows me that even pros can have a tendency to excess wordage, and struggle to get their prose tight. And that it takes hard work and (most importantly, for me) a willingness to accept that first wordage does often suck, but hard work can make it shine.
