Daily word counts
Jul. 27th, 2010 03:01 pmDaily word counts work for me. Not having daily word counts lead me to procrastinate and put my writing in limbo while I think of ten thousand and one other things I could/should be doing, and in the process, get absolutely zero done. I'm a creature of habit, one that loves having a schedule and things organized. I wrote daily for 620 days, for a total of about 240,000 words. I was getting burned out, so I stopped in mid-April, missing a day here and there, but eventually coming to this place where I haven't written new words in I don't-know-how-long. I'm wasting time and getting nothing to show for it. I have done a lot of revising and getting stories out there -- I'd be up at 10 submissions today if I hadn't gotten an acceptance and a rejection. But to be totally honest, I'd be up to 10 submissions today if I'd gotten up off my ass and revised one more story and got it subbed two days ago as I planned.
So I'm going back to my daily word counts. I'm aiming for a writing time of 7-8 pm each evening. That's actually a good time for me, dinner should be over and done with by then, and there's nothing on TV to watch at that time. Yes, TV is a big reason why I don't write more, too. But that's not going to change. It's kind of one of the things the hubby and I do together, and chat about a lot. So it's staying. So, 7-8 pm each evening, more if I feel like it and have the time. I'm not going to hold myself to writing new words, either, although my goal is 100 words a day. But if I spend that hour editing stories, then that will count, too.
I am writer. Hear me squeak.
