We came over to the coast yesterday, expecting a wild ride through wind and rain and it wasn't so bad at all.  We hit one spot where it rained/slushed hail so hard I thought we'd have to pull off the road because you really couldn't see, even with the windshield wipers going as fast as they could.  But that was only a couple of minutes and then we drove out of it.  Last week the local weather guy predicted that this week the national news and weather would be reporting about us (meaning California) and all the rain, but usually when they say something like that it just jinxes us and the storm peters out over the ocean or bypasses up to the north or south.  But in this case he was right.  The storms are happening just as they should, which is very good news, because we need the rain.  I know lots of people who live in the country with wells are having to have their wells re-drilled this year down to historic levels.  Not only is expensive, but scary, too.  We're supposed to have more rain next week, too, and I hope we do.  The snow is falling thick in the mountains, too, which is even better, as that's where we really get our water from.

I read a news article today that said new research is pointing at sitting too much as horrible for your health, and even if you exercise, it's not negating by much the damage done by sitting.  Oh lord, am I in trouble.  I spend most of my day sitting.  So I made a resolution this morning to not sit more than an hour at a time and then get up and walk around a bit, maybe even do a few minutes of yoga.  Have I followed my own advice today?  Of course not.

Finally reading "Water for Elephants."  It really is good and very interesting.  No wonder it was a bestseller.  Also saw "Avatar" last week and I really liked it.  I will admit to a "what?" moment when the first "horse" rode through, thought that was a bit too "convenient", but other than that, I didn't think it was such a bad thing to model the aliens on Native American culture.  There's a lot to like about Native American culture and the message therein about taking care of and honoring the earth.  I did not see it in 3D because I have a problem with motion sickness.  Can't ride the Star Tours or Soaring Over California rides at Disneyland, so I was afraid that 2 1/2 hours of that type of effect would not be so good for me.  2D was just fine, still enjoyable.
