My body is back from a long vacation weekend, but my brain seems to have stayed behind. I'm tired tonight. We came home to surprisingly pleasant weather -- upper 80's. Now we're supposed to be scratching at the 100's by the weekend. Last night after dinner I planted the 6 new varieties of coral bells I bought on our field trip to the Santa Ana Botanical Garden, plus the several plants I bought over the weekend. I was so excited because I found a Heuchera Rosada, which I've been looking for ever since our field trip to Davis. It's supposed to tolerate the heat and dry conditions. I divided it, even though it's technically not the right season, and put one section out in my hottest section of my front yard. In the 90+ degree heat this afternoon, the poor thing was pretty wilted, so I gave it a mighty flood this evening. Now to see how it looks come morning. It'll take some pampering to get it through the summer, I think.
What does this say about me? I was pulling out the dead and dying greenery to paperwhite bulbs this evening, but was too lazy to bring the trash can out front, so instead, I made about 10 trips to it (probably about 20-30 feet one way). It would have been a lot easier to just haul it out front with me. I guess I got my exercise.
Subbed a story today, after much fiddling with it yesterday. Well, ok, not much, actually, although I did add about 300 words. A little bit of a bridge scene. I'd much rather take away words than add them, but we'll see. I like the story, but the markets -- well, they don't seem to be loving it too much.
