An Associated Press article reports a new Afgan law makes it legal for men to rape their wives, human rights groups and some Afghan lawmakers said Thursday. Apparently this law, which they say was never debated in parliament, is intended to regulate family life inside the Shiite community. Some articles of the law being reported state:
Article 132 of the law says, Unless the wife is ill, "the wife is bound to give a positive repsonse to the sexual desires of her husband."
One of the most controversial articles stipulates the wife "is bound to preen for her husband as and when he desires."
the "man should not avoid having sexual relations with his wife longer than once every four months."
Disgusting. But what bothers me the most about all this? That the male lawmakers thought this was important enough to spend the time thinking and planning, to sit down and write a law!!! I can just see that roundtable discussion now: Oh, I was horny as hell last week and my wife didn't jump on me like I wanted her to, so I say that yes, every week on Tuesday she should have to have sex with me. Oh, what about Thursday, another asks?
I mean, come on, men! Try a little candlelight and roses. Making the bed without being asked. Picking up your dirty underwear. Giving your woman the freedom and respect she deserves as a human being, capable of making her own mind up about WHEN SHE WANTS TO HAVE SEX. Or not. Don't try to tell her who she can be friend with, who she can talk to, what she needs to wear.
Jeez.
