Election aftermath
Nov. 5th, 2008 03:05 pmEven though I came of age in the radical 60's, and *almost* wore flowers in my hair -- or hey, maybe I did and I just forgot about it after all these years! -- I am a conservative at heart these days. I won't discuss politics here. But I do want to say how proud I am to be the mother of 2 members of our future. My boys both voted yesterday. I don't think it was their first. But it was definitely their most enthusiastic involvement in being involved in governing this country. I sincerely wish it will not be their last. Apathy will kill us quicker than war, IMO.
Today I have my cynic shirt on. Will our new president-elect be able to coerce the changes that need to be made to put this country back on the right path? Will Republicans and Democrats be able to quit pointing fingers at who messed up what and work together? Will Corporate America learn to not be so damned greedy?
God, please.
In my opinion, the thing killing us fastest is Greed. Tell me why all our major corporations can't be satisfied with a simple profit! Why do they have to go after gazillions in profits at the expense of the people on whose backs they're risen to the top? When did customer service become a thing of the past? Used to be (I hate that phrase!) the phone company wanted customers, they were happy to be of service to you, and if *their* equipment failed, why then they'd come out and fix it for you without charging you for their workers who are on their payroll. Why is it my fault if their wiring goes bad? Do you realize that the simplest wireless phone plan is $40 a month? And do you realize how many customers they have and how goddarn much money they're making? And the cable companies and satellite! I mean, really, I don't mind paying for their services, but geez louize! Don't get me started on insurance and drug companies. I'm just tired of taking it in the rear and not having anyone care about it. So Mr. Obama, if you can fix all that, I'd really appreciate it. Slap some regulation on those asses. But make them lower their prices first. Just saying what's there already is fine and good, ain't good enough in my book.
