Remember how I said I hadn't finished any stories last month, despite the wordage written? Well it turns out the two stories are now done. One has been stitched together into some semblance of a real story and is off to be critted at LH. The other needs a whole lotta glue and a hacksaw. I'm really undecided on the opening. What I thought might be the opening doesn't work at all for me now that I've distanced myself from it. What I had as an alternative opening might work, but in my re-read, I think I found a better place to start the story, further in where it might be a little more exciting. I just have to look and see if the info I was putting in the alternative opening can be inserted into slots A & B elsewhere in the story. Shouldn't be a problem I don't think.

Hey, LJ hivemind. Here's a question for ya. Is it reasonable to posit that some country on Earth (maybe a former USSR republic) could send out a group of people to colonize a far-off planet and then have war break out on Earth, countries eating up other countries, and records of such colony being lost? And then how many hundreds of years before said colony would "forget" all about where they come from and go native? Would you buy it if I said 7 centuries?
